How accurate are height predictors?
Understand what a family-based adult-height estimate can tell you, why the range is broad, and how to read the result with care.

Good questions deserve clear answers.
How accurate is this estimate?
It is a rough estimate based on biological parents’ heights. The American Academy of Pediatrics describes a margin of about 4 inches (10 cm) in either direction. Actual adult height can fall outside this range. Read about accuracy.
What if I don’t know a parent’s height?
This formula needs both biological parents’ heights. Avoid substituting an average or guessing: it can make the result misleading. You can still keep a growth record without this information.
